Our Children’s Program (Our Kids)

Do you like to work with children? If so, you can be a regular volunteer for our children’s program. Our Kids meets every first and second Saturday of the month and hosts children whose mothers are or have been incarcerated. There is always a need for energetic and committed volunteers to serve as role models and provide general assistance with activities. In fact, we are generally looking for volunteers to teach classes or series of classes on topics ranging from cooking and sewing to music and drama.

We ask for a year-long commitment which will undoubtedly be time well spent. If you are at least 18 years old and would like to learn more about how you can apply your energy to this program, please contact Erica Drucker (edrucker@ourplacedc.org)

 

Clothing Boutique Donations

Would you like to make a donation? Our clothing boutique thrives on the generous donations from our community, and these donations have gone miles to provide for our women. Here’s how you can help. We are generally in need of the following items:

  • New and gently used clothing and accessories (purses, shoes, jewelry, etc.). We ask that:
  • undergarments only be donated if they are new and have the tags still attached.
  • all clothing donations be appropriate for adult women. (There is an organization next door that accepts children’s clothing.)
  • clothing be appropriate for the current season. (We regretfully have little space for storage.)
  • Plus-sized clothing!
  • New and gently used bedding (sheets, blankets, etc.)
  • Kitchen utensils.
  • Toiletries! Toiletries! Toiletries!
  • Small furniture, if there is an immediate need for it. Please call ahead to find out.

Please call ahead and arrange to make your donation. All donations are tax deductible. You will receive your receipt at the time of drop off.

 

Can’t do any of the above??

That’s okay. As we are growing, our needs are always changing. We invariably need office help. We also understand that many people have talents that can help us in ways we have not yet dreamed. We will soon post a listing of our more short-term needs, and if you have special skills to offer or have a great idea for a project that would benefit us, please drop us an e-mail (ourplace@ourplacedc.org).
